I should have known once the King found out I had the video going he was coming to get his moment in the spotlight. It's one moment he can not resist. This was the 2nd take for the video the King took the cards away the first time. I think it's a good idea to let them quiz each other with the cards even some words are new for him as a 1st grader. He really thinks this is a baby baby game but cant resist getting his hands on the cards. I think they love the pull open option to the flash cards. He also likes the Spanish CD which we don't get to listen to as much.

The king has been working on his school project (building shelter) With only a few hours in the evening before bed time the reading program has given me a few extra minutes to set him up with his project. H's building a castle and so far it's coming along nicely.

Today I was able to make this camera work after going through several batteries. I thought I should take advantage and make a quick update to our progress. It's very irrelevant that the princess is sick, however I thought I'd get my excuse in early in case she was hacking through the video, or in case you wondered why she was laying down. For some reason we seem to do this video thing in bed and someone is sick! I think being sick is one of the only times I slow down enough to do remember to make a video. OK enough of my excuses on to the update.

This is month 2 of practice. The last update was Feb. She really has the starter set down and can recognize these words in other places. She even gets excited if she sees them in books. She learned the word RESPECT in school and seems more excited about that word than any other. She can spell and write it on her own. She can not write elephant on her own. I do not regret the expensive flash cards but I do not think I would buy it all over again. What I should do is make my own videos with words that the school is teaching using the same concept that is used here with Your Baby can read. I think a kit to help me do this (software) would have been much more worth the money. The question would be do I have the time to make my own? The blank word cards are neat because I can write in words like RESPECT that is learned in school but how do I get it into the video?

Your Baby Can Read practice makes perfect

So today is a Monday and a holiday. I've been fighting a cold this weekend so I though I could sleep in a little. I wake up to a tiny voice saying "Can I do my homework?" It sounded like a good reason to get up and a good excuse to give an update.

Princess has been very enthusiastic about using the reading program. I'd say we use it every day in some form. In the morning we listen to the Spanish CD as we get dressed and brush our teeth. Even the King likes that. I actually think he is learning some words.

I must admit that we also practice handwriting and phonics along with this program so i can not say how well it would work independently of your own program. I can say my daughter has really enjoyed using this and it has helped build her confidence. She was very discouraged trying to read on her brothers level and I think this has given her something she can own and be proud of. She can grab the materials on he own and begin to practice. I use the blank white cards and the dry rase pen that comes with the pakage to rewrite the words to see if she can recognize it. So far so good. Here is a sneak peek into early morning practice.

Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase and I think I would purchase it again. Sure I could have made this myself or used regular flashcards. The fact is by the time I created my own program I would have spent the same amount of money and much more time would have passed before we began o practice reading. The one thing I dont have now is time. I've spent too much time here already ...*smiles* Until Next Time ...practice makes perfect :)

Your Baby Can Read Package with Spanish addition

The Spanish Book is pretty awesome if you can already read. It seems like a teachers guide. The video is pretty fast. I think to learn Spanish with this system I'd have to do nothing but this system. Then it would be stuck in my brain.
If you put this in front of your baby all day every day they wont have any choice but to learn Spanish or how to read. Essentially if you have the time I'd buy this system for any "BABY" 3 and under. But this is my impression from just day one and the starter video. As I progress and open more of the package I will post more pics and more comments. If you want any info just ask me. I hope this works well, I think going forward I may take the 6yr old out of the scenario. I got him a Bakugan book and a cool new timer. I think this may be a good distraction. I think.....

Your Baby Can Read Package

OK The good stuff... What's in that BOX!!!!
I guess I paid about 25 bucks that's S&H included as well as the Spanish addition.
It turned out to have about 4 DVD's, Books, Cards, CD's, And other books. Should I keep this for $250? These are the most expensive flash cards I have ever seen. We reviewed the slide cards and the books and the kids seemed pretty interested. (Keeping in mind it's pretty new) I don't think they could take more than 30 min of this a day. After we reviewed the books we took a break (15min) Then while I cooked dinner they watched the movie. That didn't hold their attention to long. I think the age might have played a roll in this. My son kept saying "they keep repeating the same thing over and over again" LOL. My 4yr old she liked it a bit more than he did. We also tried to watch the Spanish video....

Is this a total refusal to participate?? (Totally planned picture idea, his idea)

Your Baby Can Read Package, thumbs up or down?

I asked them thumbs up or thumbs down. The King was having a tough day and "Baby" reading was ot on his list of things to do for the evening. He decided since he was 6 and reading some words alread that he'd give this a thumbs down. I guess time wil tell.
